Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook met for the first time this season in Oklahoma City, and Wanda Durant isn’t buying the hype surrounding their feud.

On Wednesday night, things got a little heated between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. The Golden State Warriors traveled to face the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the two superstars shared a moment during the third quarter. At the time, Golden State was down 17. Durant and Westbrook did a bit of chirping before teammates stepped in and separated the two.

“It’s OKC,” said Wanda Durant, Kevin’s mother, to ESPN’s Chris Haynes following the game. “It’s the same atmosphere that they’ve always had, so we wouldn’t expect anything different. I just think it’s too hyped. It’s just basketball

“Not even as a fan and being here and watching both of them, I really don’t get it. But it is what it is.”

The microscope is magnified just a bit more when the Thunder and Warriors meet, and it’s because you-know-who did you-know-what. We, the media, always speculate and wonder about the relationship between the two stars. The fact of the matter is that even if they do have beef, they’re going out and trying to win a game. If tempers flare, so be it. Neither Westbrook nor Durant, however, will say that it’s anything different than a regular game.

“It’s not about me and Russ,” said Durant following the contest. “It’s about the Thunder and the Warriors. Myself and Russ are competing out there. That’s part of the game. It’s basketball. It’s not about us.

“We’re just playing the game, and trash talking is part of it. That’s all it is.”

Oklahoma City came away with the 108-91 victory, powered by Westbrook’s 34 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Durant finished with 21 points and two dimes.
