Mistakes happen. Unfortunately for Russell Westbrook and Oklahoma City Thunder, some are more severe than others.
Oklahoma City is taking on the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte, and it’s not uncommon to have a player throw the ball over to the referee after they blow the whistle. Typically, though, it’s a bounce pass when the official is ready for it.

After a timeout was called, Westbrook, channeling his inner Baker Mayfield, hurled a pass toward Tre Maddox while he was walking to the bench. It hit him square in the face, and Russ got hit with his 10th technical of the season.
Expectedly, Westbrook was very upset. It was far from intentional, of course, thus explaining the shock on his face after Maddox gave him the T.
Both teams have been jockeying back and forth throughout the contest, and maybe Westbrook just wasn’t focused on what he was doing because of how competitive the game was.
Fortunately, the league can rescind the technical if they feel it’s unwarranted.
