The Philadelphia 76ers prized possession is first overall pick Ben Simmons, and there’s no doubt about it. Simmons was praised religiously for his dominance as a freshman with the LSU Tigers, and the 6’10 Austrailian is expected to have a phenomenal rookie year.

As all 30 of the NBA’s franchises go through media day, photoshoots, Q+A’s with fans, and just an all-around fun time is to be expected. Ben Simmons is a fun guy and has become no stranger to trick shots.

In May, he nailed a three after his workout off of a rainbow pass to himself, just to show his soccer skills:

Then, just a few days later, the Sixers’ best soccer player nailed another trick-shot three. This time, however, he used his feet:

His trick shot hiatus lasted for the rest of the summer, but Simmons came back strong during the Philadelphia 76ers media day and nailed this bank shot from the upper deck of their practice facility:

The part of media day that has stood out the most so far is Simmons telling reporters that he’s gained 33 pounds post-draft, putting him at cool 250. Heading into the draft, 6’10 Aussie tipped the scale at 217, but he doesn’t look much bigger if you judge it from the video.

Nevertheless, Simmons’ weight shouldn’t be an issue if it doesn’t impede his outstanding athletic ability. After all, LeBron James is upwards of 250 and is one of the greatest athletes sports has ever seen.

Has Simmons reached that level? No. But someone who’s 6’10, 250 with guard-like athleticism is impressive no matter how you slice it.
